With Russian aggression in Ukraine continuing to cause crisis in eastern Europe, one local restaurant group is taking steps to help address the need to feed millions of refugee Ukrainians.
Bluewater Waterfront Grill is partnering with its fellow LM Restaurant establishments to raise $100,000 during the month of July. The money will support the efforts of chef Jose Andrés’ World Central Kitchen (WCK) to provide meals to refugees.
WCK has built the largest food relief operation in Ukraine, reaching more than 230 cities and towns, and is “vital in supporting their efforts to resist the Russian offensive,” according to Bluewater’s website.
“We will be working together in a number of ways to help fundraise during the month of July,” the website states. “We will be selling a special Ukraine cocktail, allowing guests to add donations onto their checks to support, and hosting benefit events to support the cause.”
The featured cocktail is a combination of special Dutch vodka, peach liqueur and fresh lemon juice, simple syrup. It’s garnished with mint and lemon. All proceeds from the drink’s sale will be donated to World Central Kitchen.
Bluewater patrons who wish to make a financial contribution can do so.
“Choose to add an additional donation to your dining checks, to help support World Central Kitchen,” the website states. “Just let your server know what value you would like to contribute. Every penny counts!”
Oceanic Restaurant in Wrightsville Beach, also part of the LM Restaurant group, will host a Ukraine Benefit Sunset Soiree from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 21 on the Crystal Pier. Tickets are $45 and include passed hors d’oeuvres, live music on the pier and one special reception cocktail. All proceeds will be donated to World Central Kitchen, according to a post on the Oceanic website.
Bluewater Waterfront Grill has also resumed its summer music series on the restaurant’s waterfront patio, with a focus on solo and duo acoustic offerings. These sessions take place every Sunday through September from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
